Adding Your SCR to Zen Vetting
Part 1: Configuring your SCR
Schools record their Single Central Record (SCR) in different ways, often following local authority guidelines. Zen Vetting can be customised to fit each school’s needs while ensuring compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2024.
To simplify compliance, Zen Vetting groups staff into “Role Types”, where each group typically requires the same safeguarding checks. Below is our recommended structure in Zen.
Key Mandatory Checks for All Staff Role Types
The following checks are required for all staff roles:
✅ Identity Check – Verify official identification.
✅ Right to Work – Confirm eligibility to work in the UK.
✅ Overseas Checks (if applicable) – Conduct additional vetting if the individual has lived or worked outside the UK.
✅ Enhanced DBS Check (including Barred List if working in regulated activity) – Confirm criminal background status.
Additional Role-Specific Checks
Depending on the role, additional safeguarding checks may be required:

How to complete the initial set up of your SCR in the vetting platform:
- Choose your role types and add any additional role type by clicking the blue plus button in the bottom row. You can change the name of the role types by clicking the pencil icon on the right hand side.
- Customise the checks required for each role type by clicking on the green plus button to add the check to the role type, or the red minus button to remove a check. Likewise, you can also add a section by clicking the blue plus button.
- Add custom fields to checks by clicking into a check and click the button 'Add Field'. Here you can customise what fields you would like to record within this check

Part 2: Adding your SCR
- Select which role type you want to upload your staff information to (e.g Agency staff, Governors, Support Staff etc.)
- Go to your own SCR on your computer and copy vertically the first column of information
- Paste this information on to the Zen Vetting platform.
- Continue this with each vetting section on the SCR until you have all the information uploaded.
Part 3: Confirming staff to add to your SCR
- Once you have all the required information uploaded onto the Zen Vetting platform, click on the button at the top left hand corner that states "Confirm staff members".
- This will then bring you to a final check page. On the top right of this page click the "Complete set up"
- You will then be brought back to your vetting dashboard. (For information on how to use the vetting dashboard and view your SCR, please the help centre section Maintaining Your Single Central Record (SCR) .
Search a member of staff by name
- To search a member of staff by name , click on the box underneath 'Find Staff' and type in the staff member's name.
- The staff member you are looking for will then appear in the below SCR tracker.
Search a member of staff by job role
- To search for a staff member by their role at the school, click on the arrow underneath 'Job Role'.
- A drop down box will appear with all the different job roles you have within your school.
- Click on the job role you would like to search
- All staff members who are working under that job role will appear in the below SCR tracker
